Nicaragua spring clean at the school
This past week La Cruz 2 saw a fair bit of rain, however the majority of the kids made it out to class. Monday was Carla’s last day at the project so we all said goodbye and thanked her for all the time, effort, and help. Thanks so much Carla, good luck in Peru!
As far as classes, Loyda, the local Nicaraguan teacher, continued with end of the semester exams with her grade three and five classes, while Steve continued to focus on vowels, syllables, and numbers 1-19 with the grade one class.
On Friday we all took a break from classes and spent the morning cleaning the school.
All the kids pitched a hand in sweeping, wiping down the blackboards, and collecting the water from a nearby stream, which of course ended in a water fight!
Unfortunately the preschool teacher had to leave her position so we have temporally postponed the preschool until the end of this month until Katrien, our new intern, arrives.
All in all it has be great week and Steve continues to get to know the kids and the community more and more each day which is crucial for the long-term sustainability of the project.
