Exams and our first adult student in Nicaragua
La Cruz #2 had a quiet week without the pre-schoolers, however some of the older children have been writing their end of semester exams so there were a few less distractions. With the results of these exams, we can gauge levels and areas for us to work on the coming months.
Next week the grade ones will be writing their exams so this past week Steve reviewed their syllables and numbers they have been working on for the last few weeks.
In the afternoons Steve has been holding an aula abierta or drop-in class for kids
of all grades. Unfortunately the majority of the children hitch rides up to the nearby garbage dump to work in the afternoons, however that hasn’t stopped a handful from showing up for class.
It gives them a chance for some supplementary material, extra one-on-one help with their homework, or just a place to hangout.
We’ve even had one of the moms come to a few drop-in classes, our first adult, and in the future hope to initiate the adult literacy class with many more of the mothers and fathers.
