Creamy birthdays and Flag Day preparations in Perú
Last week was full of fun, chantilly cream and faces in cakes...we celebrated birthdays in all 4 schools in the Pueblos Jovenes we work in outside Arequipa, in Southern Perú.
For most of the volunteers it was their first celebration along with some of the kids! Little Alex was totally petrified and had no idea why we were singing to him!
He soon started smiling when he opened up his present revealing a sweatshirt and pack of colouring pencils. It was also Project Manager Chrissie's last birthday celebrations in the schools and in true opportunist style managed to get Ruth (the local Director of Maldonado school) a treat with some icing from the cake!
This week we're all planning for the Day of the Flag on Friday! It involves alot of marching and thanks to our resident ex-navy man Nigel, he's been getting the Triunfo kids ship-shape for their big day.
We now have 6 new volunteers currently in Spanish School and they are all looking forward to starting in the community which will help relieve some of the planning from the existing handful of volunteers all of whom deserve a HUGE Thanks for their efforts during the last few weeks.
