Annual Día del Padre football match in Santa María - Guatemala
It isn't often we see the Dads on our projects as they are always working in the fields, dawn til dusk, so our annual Father's Day football match is a great occasion, especially when you remember that they are sacrificing a day's work to get together and play football at over 2100m on the side of a volcano!
The two teams lined up with Logan, our combo volunteer, and Dom on one side, and Ross, GVI's Regional Field Co-ordinator, based in Guatemala, the foreign ringers in the sides.
A couple of early goals saw the "limones" reach half-time somewhat deservedly ahead, leading to an interesting half-time team-talk.
More goals by Amadeo´s dad, taking his tally to four in the match, sealed an emphatic win by 8-3 the limones, though the Pepián lunch, with most of the Dads in the school, not just those who played, helped soothe the pain.
A great day and the revenge will be sweet in 2009.
