GVI Phoenix visits and tradition in Nicaragua
This week in La Cruz 2 Steve had the pleasure of seeing two familiar faces; Debra (our 6 month combo volunteer, currently working in Honduras), and Caroline (project manager in Honduras) were able to help out at the project for a few days.
They gave a hand in reviewing the letters/syllables “M, P, D, L, N, and S”, with Steve’s morning class, and with some maths with the older kids in the afternoon. It was nice to have a few more GVI’ers up at La Cruz!
As well Ana, a local preschool teacher, arrived at the school and started up the much needed preschool for the 3 to 5 year olds. The rest of the kids finally finished their end of the semester exams and next week Loyda (the local teacher) will evaluate them to see who goes on to the next grade.
On Friday Ana brought in a traditional dress and after a little persuading we were able to convince Angela (one of the students) to grace us all with a traditional dance to música foklórica nicaragüense, which of course was followed by a few regueton songs. Next week we will be celebrating teachers’ day here in Nicaragua…fiesta!
