Gita joins as an intern and first grade gets a boost in Honduras

This week on the project here in Copan, Honduras we have welcomed Gita Madan as a new intern who will be working with us in San Rafael for the next 3 months.

She has previously worked on the GVI Phoenix Teaching Project in Ecuador and will be working in the school here with 1st grade and giving additional support both to Caroline, our Project Manager and to the volunteers with their lesson planning and other activities.

First grade have been making good progress this week with learning their syllables and doing single digit addition and are now ready to move onto simple subtraction.

The two children who moved up from kindergarten in April will be receiving more individual attention this week as new volunteer Connie Dao, who has worked with us on both our Guatemala and Nicaragua projects, will be working with Gita in first grade.

Noel is making good progress and is starting to catch up with the rest of the class but Olga is still struggling to recognise the letters.

Other members of the class, including Jairo and Maria Esperanza, are doing very well with their syllables and have started to read simple words.
