Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Last day of Summer school - Perú

Friday the 18th was the last day of summer school here in Arequipa. On Thursday the volunteers and kids from Triunfo and Maldonado schools let their hair down with a Carnival.

Several activities were arranged, including Throw-A-Wet-Sponge-At-Profe-Ben’s-Face, Monkey Bar challenge and a Face Painting station! And of course the inevitable water fight broke out at the end of the day. The kids were awarded prizes (school supplies and lollies) for completing a circuit of all the activities and they could go as many times as their little feet could carry them.

The kids enjoyed themselves immensely – thanks to all the preparations by the vols. We’ve had a great start to 2011 and look forward to welcoming all the children and teachers on the 1st of March.
