Inter-school Sportsday in Ecuador

Both the gods of sport and weather were smiling on the day of the Inter-School Sports Carnival in Otavalo. With Imbabura looming over the stadium like an ancient Incan warrior, the carnival commenced with the running of the ‘Olympic’ relay and the lighting of the ceremonial torch (yes really!).

All day, they ran hard, flopped softly (Fosbury style!), leapt far and threw long like little Olympians-in-waiting. The Larcacunga boys excelled on the day, winning both the Long Distance (Bryan) and High Jump events (Jesús Rumiñahui).

Joining them on the winners podium were Byron and Inti from Muenala who placed second and third respectively in the same events. The Larcacunga girls also showed their colours by achieving second and third placings in the Relay, Long Jump, Shot Put and Long Distance events.
