A Special Day for Santiago's family in Guatemala
On Sunday, we were very kindly invited up to Santa Maria to join in celebrating the confirmation of Santiago’s two daughters, Olga and Blanca. The room where we eat lunch every day was beautifully decorated with palms, flowers, balloons and bunting and, as special guests, were invited to sit at one of the long tables set out for the confirmation party. Olga and Blanca looked beautiful in their traditional clothes and hair decorated with flowers.
We were served an amazing meal of pepián (traditional Guatemalan stew, served on special occasions), 10 tortillas each (!) vegetable picante and some rather strong rum and coke! This was followed by two HUGE cakes. It was a lovely occasion and we were very honoured to be invited. The celebrations continue for 3 days in total, so the rum may still be flowing!
