Pencils through rings...on horseback - Independence Day in Honduras
15th September is the Day of Independence for 5 of the countries of Central America, and our 2 schools in Honduras were no different. We had two great days of marches, dramas and songs in the communites of San Rafael & Barbasco, both complete with marching drummers and pom-pom waving cheerleaders.
One of the stand out events, was the "Carrera de Cintas". This involves riding a galloping horse, pencil in hand, which you have to put through a small ring hanging above the track. If you are successful your endeavours are rewarded with a kiss from one of the "Independence Day Queens" from the community. Lots of fun for all involved.
