Local musician enthralls Chirisa in Nicaragua
Friday at our newest school, Chirisa, the kids had a special guest, Lizandro. Lizandro is a talented local musician and friend who can often be found in Café Luz (a local coffee shop) brilliantly strumming his guitar and singing.
Since the beginning of September the children in both Chirisa and La Thompson have been learning about Nicaragua. September is the month of “patria” and the kids have made Nicaraguan flags, learned about their national symbols, like the Guardabarranco (the national bird), and talked about what it means to be Nicaraguan.
In keeping with the month’s theme, Lizandro came along with us to Chirisa to sing typical Nicaraguan songs for the kids. It’s no small feat having over 75 children sit still in their chairs but on Friday it was easy. The kids sang along to the songs they knew and swayed in their chairs to the ones they didn’t. Watching the kids enjoy the music of their country brought a smile to our faces and we were all glad they had this wonderful opportunity.
