Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Revamp in La Thompson - Nicaragua

With much of the infrastructure and construction attention being placed on our new project in Chiriza, Karla, a local GVI Phoenix staff member, suggested we concentrate on repairing portions of the school and school grounds in La Thompson.

Because of the financial support from past volunteers and other donors who have heard about GVI Phoenix Nicaragua, we were able to complete a wonderful revamp of La Thompson to include: completed fence around the school, fencing around garden plots, a new wood wall to replace the broken down plastic wall to our outdoor classrooms and wood reinforcement of the door to the school kitchen.

GVI Phoenix staff, volunteers and the children are very happy with these improvements!
