On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Sports and Flag Day in Ecuador

Our kids had their first all schools sports day against 17 local schools down in Otavalo. Preparations were intense up at the schools the week before, with best efforts (and a little improvisation!) on long distance training, relay racing and ‘salto alto’ the high jump! Each school put together a team of its best budding athletes to compete.

All teams at Muenala, Larcacunga and Huayrapungo made great strides on the day and our Larc team proudly returned to school bearing 4 silver medals in sprint, shot put, long jump and relay!

February 27th was also National Flag Day - Día de La Bandera. On this patriotic day the children and teachers at each school got together to sing national hymns, recitals and award the top attaining students from each school. This year it was Muenala’s turn to host the event...how proud were we, and of course Fanny!
