Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Fathers Day in Honduras

Last week was Father´s Day here in Honduras. The GVI Phoenix secondary school put on a spectacular event for all of the fathers. They had been preparing for over two weeks in advance with the help of the teachers.

Over 30 fathers showed up for the mid-afternoon celebration. Many groups from the 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes put on various acts skits, songs and poems, all in honour of their fathers.

The grand finale skit played by the oldest students had the often stoic padres rolling in laughter. The event was followed by a raffle for a gift, and cake and soda for all. A great celebration and an excellent effort by all of the students from grades 6, 7, and 8.
