Number of children attending school almost doubles in GVI Phoenix's Nicaragua project since inception

When GVI Phoenix first began working with the community La Cruz three months ago there were approximately 20 kids in the school. Now thanks to the efforts of GVI and the help of the community we have 35 kids attending the school and new faces turning up every week!

With the preschool up and running again Santos Patricia, Joana Paola, and Anita are just a few of the names of the children who are able to attend school.

Jessica, a shy yet bright third grader is back at school, as well the four siblings Lizbeth, Yelke, Avel Antoniel, and Maria who spend most days working on a farm are attending classes in the morning.

Thanks to the new volunteers these children are able to attend school and receive more one on attention with their studies.

Besides the increase in students GVI and members of La Cruz have made some major improvements to the school: the school has been painted, materials have been supplied for the kids, daily fruit, rice, and tortillas are provided for the children, and this week will be starting adult literacy classes.

Hopefully with the help GVI and participation of the La Cruz the numbers will continue to grow.

Lastly, this week we said goodbye to La Cruz’s first intern, Katrien. She has been a great help and we will all miss her at the school and in the GVI house. For her last day we finished classes a little early to play baseball, jump rope and say our goodbyes, MUCHAS GRACIAS KATRIEN!

How does GVI Phoenix make a difference?

The following film was made in Guatemala, though the message is the same across all GVI Phoenix projects
