Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Huayrapungo's goal-fest in Ecuador

And so to the second week of the football tournament and an historic display of guts and determination from our Huayrapungo team….after the early morning low cloud and mist cleared the brave 7, coached and cajoled as always by Jaime, with volunteers Graham and Sam adding technical expertise, took to the field and proceeded to play their hearts out in a stunning 9-0 victory.

The goal-fest saw Jose Luis shoot home 4 confident goals, a delighted Alex got 1, Robinson slotted 2 and our lion hearted defender Darwin scored 2 – from just outside his own goal area – leaving the supporters ecstatic.

This victory, plus their performance in the previous week, earned them a playoff match for 3rd place – they were unable to repeat their earlier victory and lost 1-0 though took 4th place out of the 10 teams overall. What an amazing day for Huayrapungo!!
