Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Graduation in La Thompson - Nicaragua

We recently celebrated la Promoción or graduation of ten preschoolers from La Thompson. Vetsayda, Martita, Vanessa, Chirley, Lener, Miguel, Arlin, Karol, Jefer and Edixon were all accompanied by a parent, relative or friend to receive their diplomas.

GVI Phoenix local staff Karla and Yessenia decorated the school full tilt for this special celebration dedicated to past GVI project manager Steve Elliott who saw these students first enter school and worked with them extensively.

These ten children are all fully prepared to enter the first grade and much of this can be attributed to their parents sending them to school to receive help from very dedicated and dynamic GVI volunteers. The older students helped to decorate and prepare for the graduation and some put on traditional and modern dance routines.
