Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Happy New Year - Itzapa gets a makeover - Guatemala

Happy New Year to you all - here's hoping 2009 will be another great year for Phoenix, in all the countries in which we work. As is custom, after a couple of days recovery from Christmas, the volunteers got back to work in Itzapa.

Due to the conditions in which we work, and the quality of paint, we have to repaint each year, so the volunteers donned their painting clothes, tooled up with rollers, brushes and some interesting smelling paint, and got to work.

We are also building a new classroom, to pack in the new kids we have taken in, and to finally get Acatenango out of the cupboard, so the brushes will have to come out again soon.

Thanks to all the vols for getting stuck in over the festive period, the school looks great for the restart on 5th January.
