New communities for Phoenix Colca Canyon - Perú
This past week, Carla, Alan and Dom have been in the communities around Colca Canyon, finalising plans for next year and our expansion of Phoenix into the surrounding areas - some more remote than others!
One of the communities in which we will be working is nestled about half an hour from the base town of Chivay, a 15 minute walk off the gravel track road, which the local teacher openly admits, has been forgotten.
There are almost 30 children in the school, though with potential to be a lot more, once we start, as we can augment the teaching ratio across the 6 grades in the two-classroom school.
These new projects will be open to the six month combo volunteers to start with, as they should be used to the altitude, having worked in Ecuador beforehand.
It is always an exciting time to set up our work in new communities, especially with so much potential over the coming years, and we look forward to March 2009 when we take our first lessons there.
