Family literacy in Nicaragua
A nice highlight of the week was giving classes to an entire family. We have been giving adult literacy classes in the afternoon and this week both parents of the Castellón family as well as their three kids, Hayely, Yuri, and Julio dropped in.
Usually the classes are intended for Adults however Martyn, a GVI volunteer, has been giving the kids some extra lessons on the other side of the school while the Steven and Ana give literacy classes in the other classroom. It was a delight to have a whole family in the school!
The last few weeks here in Estelí, La Cruz, and throughout Nicaragua there has been a fair amount of rain. Due to the remote location of La Cruz, the community with whom GVI has been working with, the rain can make it difficult in arriving.
There are a few steams that turn into rivers when the rains so, unfortunately, we have had to cancel a few classes recently. However this week the rain slowed down somewhat so we were able to get back to our regular routine in La Cruz.
We held classes for the kids in the mornings, played baseball and marbles during recess and had adult classes in the afternoon.
