Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Doreen's birthday

On 6th October we celebrated Doreen's birthday in Santa María, then a week later, in Itzapa. Both days were excellent and in true style, were celebrated to the full!

In Santa María, all the mums woke early to start preparing 100s of tortillas and pepían and the children practised their dances.

In Itzapa, Elena's women's group got together and put on traditional dances. A great time for the women, the kids and the volunteers, and most of all, Doreen! Happy Birthday, and for those who don't know....it's 6th October!
