Short-term English Workshops in Guatemala
The first two short-term English teaching volunteers, Caity and Amanda, have just finished their stints in Guatemala, and both fared excellently! The role of the short-termers is largely to provide assistance to Profe Neil (our resident Diploma-qualified English teacher-trainer), whether it be preparing materials for lessons, making class posters, taking over small groups for language-learning games or assisting the weaker kids, thus freeing Neil to help progress the rest of the class.
Amanda even got involved in some tree-planting in Itzapa! What they have got out of it is a short introduction to English teaching and a full-on experience in the classroom, and the kids in turn have benefited from the extra help, exposure to different English accents (Oregon and New York respectively) and double the fun at pausa!
What we hope is that the short-termers will have caught the teaching bug and will return to do longer stints, with the benefits of their new experience and having caught a glimpse of how GVI Phoenix works. So hurry back Amanda and Caity!
