Volunteers show off their artistic talents in Mata Escura, Brasil
Last Thursday volunteers at the GVI Phoenix project in Mata Escura, Brasil, arrived at school to find that a water shortage would mean classes would have to be suspended for the day. However, the team decided that far from taking a rest, they would take advantage of the opportunity to give a lick of paint to the 2 recently completed classrooms at the school.
Since arriving in May, GVI Phoenix have built 4 new classrooms and a brand new school kitchen. Volunteers Alisha, Sarah, Matt and Fabiana brightened up the walls with letters, numbers, a beautiful wildlife scene, a perfect scale map of South America and an area for displaying the students' work.
Not only do these murals improve the aesthetics of the rooms, but they will also provide excellent teaching aids. The new artwork got a fantastic reception when the kids returned to school on Friday and we now have 2 newly formed classes of 4-6 year olds and 7-11 year olds hard at work in the rooms.
