Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

School makeovers in Ecuador

All 3 schools got a new coat of paint inside and out, plus some well needed DIY ahead of the start of the new school year. Thanks and congratulations on a fantastic job go out all the volunteers and staff who worked long hours over a 2 week period to get the job finished.

Particular mention goes out to our ‘foreman’ Jack Somervell, intern trainee, whose artistic abilities inspired the team. Thanks also to Zoe O’Connor and Margie Germain, ex volunteers, whose fundraising efforts ensured we could make the ever expanding wishes of the community leaders a reality!

The teachers and children, plus community members were delighted with the results – well done everyone!
