Plan Ancianos in Itzapa - Guatemala
Every three months GVI Phoenix hands out food parcels to the grandparents of the children who regularly attend the school. This month, in Itzapa, we added fruit trees to their parcel! Last Thursday they recieved five pounds of rice, ten pounds of sugar, loads of porridge and an apple and peach tree to plant ready for next years fruit.
The volunteers they get to see where yet more of their generous contributions go to and meet some of their students' grandparents. The kids see what they have earnt; only those children who come to our school regularly earn these perks for their grandparents!
The day went without a hitch, although some of them had to wait a while for their parcel as however loud Lester, Elena's son, called their names for some of our 90 plus granparents it wasn't loud enough! Once the last grandparent had gone we felt very proud to have continued our support for the wider community. Thank you to all the volunteers past and present that allowed this to happen once again.
