Cookery Classes in Brazil
The cuisine of the state of Bahia is reknowned throughout Brazil for its distinctive African flavours, delicious fresh seafood and mouthwatering desserts. With the help of local cookery teacher Carmen, volunteers in Salvador have been learning how to prepare a whole range of local specialities, including shrimp moqueca, carne do sol and traditional sweets ‘beijos’.
Each lesson begins with a caipirinha (Brazilian cocktail), which everyone has now got down to a fine art! Then Carmen explains the day’s recipe and the cooking begins. Once the meal is prepared everyone sits down and tucks in! Dinner finishes with a freshly made juice prepared using local exotic fruits – this week it was a delicious passion fruit smoothie.
Everyone is really enjoying the lessons – volunteers are practicing their Portuguese whilst learning to cook a whole range of new meals and take the recipes home with them.
