Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Carnival in Perú

As “Carnival” is celebrated all over Latin America, GVI Phoenix Peru felt holding a Carnival Day during our summer school program would be great way to incorporate a local custom with new activities.

Volunteers planned fun activities for the students to participate in such as face painting, mask making, fingernail painting, puzzles, an egg-spoon race, doing the limbo, a movie, and, as is traditional, a water balloon fight!

Students were able to rotate through the different activities, and even the local work crew got in on the fun! As a special treat, fruit salad and cake was served along with the usual sandwiches. Great fun was had by all!
