One year anniversary in La Thompson, Nicaragua
It’s officially been over a year that GVI Phoenix has been working in La Thompson, in Estelí, Nicaragua. “Things have come a long way…I remember when we first began giving classes outside of a community member’s house to just 3 kids, now we have an actual school, loads more kids coming, and we feel like a real part of the community”, says project manager Steve.
The construction of the school began in January 2009, with members of the community helping out, and now stands out as a one of the most colorful and lively buildings in the community. “It was really amazing to see the people come together as a community and help out with the school".
The school provides a safe and educational place for the children of the community, however it also serves as a community center to hold meetings for the rest of the community. Ligdana, a Mom who sends her two daughters to the GVI school says “Thanks to all the volunteers with GVI my daughters Shirley and Yulisa have had a place to learn and be with other children”.
Thanks to all the volunteers this past year for you time, effort and donations!
