New water supply in Honduras
With the help of GVI Phoenix, its volunteers and some fathers from the community, a brand new pila was built over the school break. Prior to this pila being built the children needed to carry buckets down a hill to fill them with stream water.
This trip would take the kids away from class for at least 20 minutes, and still not provide a sufficient amount of clean water for 100 children. This new pila is very large, has 2 washing tables, a roof to protect it from the sun and can hold enough water for almost 1 week at a time.
This allows the children to be able to wash their hands after eating and using the bathroom, and to clean their dishes after the merienda. It also provides available drinking water which is much needed as the temperatures are rising day by day.
