Birthdays in Nicaragua
This week GVI Phoenix celebrated birthdays for the first time in La Thompson. We have had 4 kids in the school who have had a birthday since we began in the community. Martita, Jander, Gerald, and Dariana all received gifts and got first crack at the piñata.
Some of the Moms of the community came out to celebrate as well. One of the volunteers got to talking with Diriana´s Mom and discovered that this is the first time Diriana has celebrated her birthday.
In fact, unfortunately none of the siblings or parents in Diriana´s family have been able to celebrate their birthdays due to the financial situation within their household.
Although it may seem like something small it means a lot to the children and the parents in the community to do something special for the children.
It gives them, as well as the volunteers, a chance to get to know each other better, dance to some regetón, eat frozen chocolate covered bananas, play games and just have a good time!
