GVI Phoenix school gets walls and a floor, plus first field trip in Nicaragua
The school we are building in La Thompson is taking shape, so the volunteers gave lessons to the kids in a nearby farm in the community while the floor is being finished in the school.
Due to the rainy season in Nicaragua a well-made floor made out of aggregate, earth and concrete is necessary for a dry place to teach, and GVI hopes to have it completed within a week or so.
This week we had our first official field trip with the kids from La Thompson. Estelimar is an educational/tourist center with facilities for pre-school up to sixth grade.
They have a great interactive program with anything from big model dinosaurs, to miniature farms, to live monkeys. It was the first time for all of the kids in the school to be able to visit Estelimar.
The kids (and the volunteers!) learned about solar energy, irrigation processes, made crafts, and played in the park. It was a great day for all.
On a sadder note we had to say goodbye to one of our volunteers Mike who has been a great help to us this past month, the kids will all miss you and we hope to see you again soon!
