New lick of paint in Mata Escura - Brazil
With classes closed for the São João holiday, volunteers in Brazil got busy this week giving the school building a makeover. First of all a thorough clean was in order, followed by some serious sandpapering, then everyone got an opportunity to test their artistic talents.
In honour of the World Cup fever which is gripping Brazil at present, we chose the national colours - yellow, green and blue for the walls and doors and brightened up the classrooms with a series of murals, letters and numbers.
Working (and dancing) to a soundtrack of football songs from the past 20 years, the volunteers did fantastic work and the school looks much brighter and smarter for the kids´ return on Monday.
Sr. Eraldo, the local school director, was so impressed with the volunteers´ work he has asked if they can find time to do a mural on the front of the school building.
