Facts and figures

On an annual basis we aim to provide:
First time education or educational reinforcement to almost 2000 children in primary school
Secondary education to over 200 children and adults
Employment to over 75 local people; more-so indirectly
100 energy saving wood-burning stoves and 15,000 trees planted
Around 100,000 teaching hours
Over 500,000 pieces of fruit
1,000’s of pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, colouring pencils, work-books and erasers
Over 300,000 whole or subsidized meals
Daily education in 16 communities across Latin America
Direct benefits to over 500 families

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Challengers on our first six Charity Challenges of 2011, biking from Guatemala to Honduras, the inaugural Nicaragua Volcano Challenge, Brazil's Chapada Diamantina Challenge , Guatemala's first Caribbean Kayak Challenge, Perú´s Cerani Pass and Ecuador's Volcano Challenge. Nicaragua's second volcano Challenge is set for 3rd-6th November and the third Guatemala Volcano Challenge dates are set for 27th November -2nd December.

Itzapa receives maize after Agatha thanks to your support - Guatemala

Thanks to your fantastic support through our justgiving site we handed out 150 bags of maize last week to our families – enough for one month's food. The few crops that they had been able to salvage from last year's bad season were lost in the storm and the families were left with nothing.

Next we have roofs and walls to put back together. After that is done we will look to the future; to planting new crops to replace the ones lost and to help them prepare for any future natural disasters.

We really couldn't have done it without your support - the mothers queuing out the door with smiles on the faces waiting for their maize just shows how happy they were. Next week we will hand out the sugar - just like in Santa Maria.
