GVI Phoenix to start work in Chiapas, México, in April 2009
The indigenous communities in the Chiapas region suffer a noticeable level of poverty, and our hope is to be able to mirror our GVI Phoenix activities in other Latin American countries and help improve the life choices of indigenous children and adults through education.
Located in the picturesque Jovel valley, San Cristóbal de Las Casas in Mexico is a colonial style town set around the Zócalo (main square), good for wandering around or just people watching from one of the many street side cafes.
Spectacular waterfalls, deep canyons and lake systems, along with atmospheric Mayan ruins almost hidden by the jungle, are all accessible from the town providing an escape to nature and the past.
Surrounded by indigenous villages, San Cristóbal will prove to be a good base from which to launch our new educational endeavour during 2009.
