Chiriza and La Thompson Legalization - Nicaragua

Last week in the communities of La Thompson and Chiriza, the government began the process of legal recognition, which means they could get access to water, electricity, healthcare and improved roads, and most importantly, individual titles to their plots of land. Both La Thompson and Chiriza have been very transient in nature as community members are frequently seeking better opportunities or living conditions and moving to find these opportunities.

With both communities being legally recognized in 2011, GVI Phoenix Staff hopes this will equate to more stability as well as better school attendance. The legalization process has continued into this week in Chiriza and features long lines of community members waiting to process their land titles with government workers. A fitting scene given the community is using a classroom from our newly walled school to complete the legalization process. We are hoping our school and community can continue to develop together.
