6 Months on in La Thompson, Nicaragua

Six months ago in Nicaragua, GVI Phoenix decided to start working with the small rural community called La Thompson in first time education and stoves. The first stove was built and classes were given to a handful of children.

Since then GVI has constructed more than a dozen stoves, made raised bed community gardens, built a two classroom school (luckily built above ground-level!) where around 40 kids are currently attending, and is giving Adult Literacy and English classes twice a week.

As of three weeks ago we had to make an additional open classroom due to the increasing number of kids attending. For some of the children the classes given by GVI volunteers are the only type of formal education which they receive.

For rest of the children the classes serve as reinforcement classes (public schools in Nicaragua only give half day classes).

Every few months the GVI volunteers celebrate the birthdays of the children who have had birthday recently. Last week they celebrated the birthdays of Joseyln, Junior, Minor, Cristel, Martita, and Marvin.

Our project is growing from strength to strength, all thanks to our volunteers this year...may it continue for a long time to come!
