New addition to the GVI Phoenix Team in Nicaragua

GVI Phoenix has recently welcomed a new member to their team. Ana Calderón Barred is a local Nicaraguan teacher who has been teaching the preschool classes in the mornings.

During the afternoon break Ana and her family have graciously been offering her house and hospitality to GVI volunteers and staff as well as volunteered her time and effort in teaching the adult literacy classes in the afternoon.

Whilst continuing to teach pre-school, she can now become full-time with the adult literacy classes and also work with volunteers as a member of the GVI staff, helping to lesson plan and ease in to the day to day tasks required. She will also be introducing classes in local culture and tradition to the children, something GVI Phoenix strives to preserve. Welcome Ana, and thanks for all your help!

Despite the rain in the last few weeks La Cruz has been a busy place. With the help of GVI and the community we have completed three more stoves which, besides being beneficial for the families themselves, will also be used in the cooking of food for children attending school.

In so far as classes Martyn and Steve have been continuing teaching syllables to the grade ones. The method used for the children associates some sort of picture or thing with the syllable or letter being taught.

This week we worked on the letter Ñ so the kids were busy drawing Ñato´s (a Spanish name for a boy) in order to remember how the letter sounds.

How does GVI Phoenix make a difference?

The following film was made in Guatemala, though the message is the same across all GVI Phoenix projects
