Santa María welcomes new kids in Guatemala

Two months ago a group of mothers spoke with Santiago, our community leader in Santa María de Jesús, to put their kids in our Project, so we decided to open a new class in the afternoon!

Now we have 22 new kids, and more happy mothers. The kids are great, they are very enthusiastic with their classes and the attendance is amazing. Jessica Lorena and Maria Antonieta are 11 years old and have never been to the school.

Nayeli is very clever but she suffers from chronic malnutrition. Ana Gabriela, with the big cheeks, but her father is alcoholic. Marlen Mishell is very quiet in the class but when you are next to her and give hugs, she feels very comfortable. She told Doreen "my father is very sick, he can´t walk and he is in the bed all the time" and she adds "my mother is sick as well, but she can clean the house...".

It is sad to hear these stories but at the same time it brings home why we are here now, to help them, to give them love and to provide a better education for them in the future.
